Construction on the Oakland Alameda Access Project (OAAP) continues to move forward, with crews making steady progress on Oak Street, inside the Webster Tube, and at Mariner Square Loop. While work has created some traffic challenges, the improvements will ultimately deliver safer, more accessible connections between Alameda and Oakland — for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders alike.
🚧 What's Being Built Right Now
Oak Street crews are installing foundations for future traffic signals, signage, and utility infrastructure. Expect temporary excavation impacts, but this is a key step toward completing the planned sidewalk and safety corridor.
Inside the Webster Tube, the new bicycle and pedestrian pathway is taking shape. Crews are placing rebar cages, pouring concrete sections, and advancing segment by segment through the tunnel. When done, this will be the first dedicated non-motorized crossing of the estuary — a big deal for Alameda.

Mariner Square Loop has seen completed driveway improvements, with lighting, sidewalk, and bicycle/pedestrian connections coming next. Work on the Oak Street off-ramp retaining wall continues to support future roadway widening.

Several good alternatives can help you skip the traffic:

- 🚌 AC Transit — frequent service connecting Alameda to Oakland, Berkeley, and beyond
- ⛴️ SF Bay Ferry — a scenic and stress-free option to San Francisco and beyond
Bonus: when you ride transit, you can work, read, or decompress instead of sitting in construction traffic. That's a win.
