The Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle, affectionately known as "Woodstock," is having a remarkable summer. With record-breaking ridership, expanded service hours, and its second anniversary right around the corner, the shuttle continues to prove itself as one of the most convenient and enjoyable ways to travel between Alameda and Oakland.
As construction associated with the Oakland Alameda Access Project continues to impact travel through the Posey and Webster Tubes, the Water Shuttle provides a reliable alternative that completely bypasses roadway congestion while offering riders scenic views of the Oakland Estuary.
📈 Record Ridership Continues
May 2026 was the strongest month in the Water Shuttle's history.
The service recorded its highest ridership day ever on May 24, carrying 1,039 passengers. The week of May 19–24 also became the highest ridership week on record, with 3,724 riders utilizing the service. Overall, Woodstock carried 15,788 passengers during May, making it the busiest month since operations began.
Even more impressive, average daily ridership increased by 22 percent compared to May 2025, demonstrating growing awareness and demand for water-based transportation throughout the region.
These milestones highlight the increasing role the Water Shuttle plays in providing sustainable transportation options for residents, employees, and visitors traveling between Alameda and Oakland.
🗓️ Expanded Summer Service
To accommodate growing demand, the Water Shuttle continues to operate on an expanded schedule throughout the summer season.
The service currently operates six days per week, Tuesday through Sunday. On weekends, riders can take advantage of 67 daily trips operating from 7:20 a.m. until 9:36 p.m., making it easier than ever to use the shuttle for commuting, dining, entertainment, and recreational activities.
Whether you're heading to Jack London Square, exploring Alameda Landing, meeting friends for dinner, or simply looking for a relaxing trip across the estuary, the Water Shuttle offers a convenient alternative to driving.
☀️ A Great Option for Summer Events
Summer is one of the best times to take advantage of the Water Shuttle. With major sporting events, festivals, outdoor dining, and waterfront activities taking place throughout the Bay Area, the shuttle provides a stress-free transportation option that avoids parking challenges and traffic congestion.
For residents interested in watching international soccer matches, many viewing locations throughout Oakland are located near Water Shuttle connections, making it easy to leave the car at home and enjoy the festivities.
The service also pairs well with transit, walking, and bicycling, helping riders create flexible multimodal trips throughout the East Bay.
🎂 Celebrate Woodstock's Second Birthday
July 17, 2026 marks Woodstock's second anniversary.
Over the past two years, the Water Shuttle has grown from a new transportation pilot into a well-established community resource that serves thousands of riders every month. The continued ridership growth demonstrates the demand for innovative transportation options that connect Alameda and Oakland while reducing vehicle trips through the tubes.

🎆 Get Involved This Fourth of July
The Water Shuttle team is also seeking volunteers to participate in Alameda's Fourth of July Parade. Volunteers will help represent the service by walking, biking, or scootering in the parade while distributing information about the Water Shuttle and its benefits to the community.

- 🚶 Parade begins at 10:00 a.m. — be ready to walk, ride, or scooter the full 3.3 miles
