Beginning Sunday, June 14, AC Transit will implement its seasonal summer service changes. While many of the adjustments are relatively minor, several routes serving Alameda will see schedule modifications, particularly due to ongoing nighttime closures associated with the Oakland Alameda Access Project (OAAP).
The Alameda Transportation Management Association (ATMA) encourages all riders to review their routes before traveling, especially those who regularly use AC Transit during evening hours.
🚧 Oakland Alameda Access Project Impacts
Several Alameda routes are receiving schedule adjustments to accommodate nighttime Webster Tube closures that continue as part of the Oakland Alameda Access Project. These changes are intended to help maintain reliable service despite detours and altered travel patterns between Alameda and Oakland.
The following Alameda-serving routes will be affected:
Line O
The last trip to Fruitvale BART on Sunday through Thursday evenings has been adjusted to reflect the routing and travel times required during nighttime Webster Tube closures.
Line 96
Schedule adjustments have been made throughout the route, with most trips operating one to two minutes later than before. In addition, the final two trips to Alameda Point on Sunday through Thursday evenings have been modified to accommodate Webster Tube closure impacts.
Line 51A
Trips operating toward Fruitvale BART on Sunday through Thursday evenings will see schedule adjustments to account for nighttime construction activities and associated detours.
Line 30
Weekend schedules have been adjusted throughout the route, with most trips departing approximately 15 minutes earlier than previous schedules. The final Sunday trip from Downtown Oakland to the Dimond District via Alameda has also been moved earlier to accommodate the Webster Tube closure schedule.
Line 19
The final Sunday through Thursday trip to Fruitvale BART has been adjusted to account for nighttime Webster Tube closure impacts.
Line 31
Weekend schedules have been modified alongside Line 30, with most trips departing approximately 15 minutes earlier than before.
💡 Why These Changes Matter
The Oakland Alameda Access Project is currently constructing the future bicycle and pedestrian pathway through the Webster Tube while making other transportation improvements connecting Alameda and Oakland. While these upgrades will provide significant long-term benefits, temporary nighttime closures require AC Transit to adjust schedules to maintain dependable service.
For riders who commute during evening hours, even small schedule changes can affect transfers and travel times. Checking updated schedules before traveling can help avoid missed connections and unexpected delays.
🚌 ATMA Encourages Transit Use During Construction
As construction continues throughout the Alameda-Oakland corridor, public transit remains one of the best ways to avoid traffic congestion and tube-related delays. Transit riders can use their commute time productively by working, reading, or relaxing rather than sitting in traffic.
Many ATMA members are eligible for free or reduced-cost transit benefits through programs such as the Clipper BayPass and AC Transit EasyPass, making transit an affordable and convenient alternative during construction.
